I do work on economic, social and institutional History of the Middle Ages (the Early and High Middle Ages), with a focus on the area between the Loire and the Rhine (mainly the Middle Meuse and Liège-area), investigating the way the rural society was framed by the lay and religious elites. I pay specific attention to:
1° The organisation of the agricultural production by the institutional actors and the peasant family, in large but also modest-scale estates
2° The insertion of the rural economy in the circuits of exchange, with specific attention paid to the archaeological data as proxies. In this frame, as I question the circulation of food and its access, one of my main goals is to construct a systematic reflection upon the food-crises in the Early and High Middle Ages, with Jean-Pierre Devroey and other partners
3° The practices of management of the religious communities and their practical and moral implications
